Increased Numbers of Children COVID-19 Infections in the US

Scary news from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association: a 90% increase in new coronavirus infections among US kids in the last four weeks.

According to their record, between July 9 and August 6, there were 179,990 new infections among children in the United States.

The data was gathered from the official health departments of all states, Puerto Rico, Guam, the District of Columbia, and New York City.

However, the terrifying increase in new infections among children might be a result of more testing.

At the beginning of the pandemic, they were only testing the sick people and the ones with symptoms.

Now, after conducting broader testing, we get an extended picture of reality.

Children make over 9% of the total number of positive cases in the states that report infections by age.

By August 6, there were 380,174 reported cases of COVID-19 infected children in the US.

However, severe symptoms among children are still rare, and from all coronavirus hospitalizations, only 0.5% – 5.3% belong to the youngest American population.

The death rate among kids struggling with COVID-19 in the US is 0% to 0.4% of all coronavirus deaths in the country.

In nineteen states there are no children deaths, while in other states the children’s death rate is 0% to 0.5% of all child COVID-19 fatalities.

The WHO warns that the second wave is moving through the younger population, although the most vulnerable groups are between the age of 25 and 64.
