France and Italy Report Increased COVID-19 Positivity Rates

French authorities are raising a red flag after the rapid increase in new coronavirus cases among young people.

Last night, the medical experts reported a 3.6% positivity rate of all tested people last week, which is more than double than the 1.4% positive cases from the beginning of summer.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there are 244,854 infected people in France and 30,528 deaths.

In the last 24 hours, the country reported 1,955 new coronavirus cases and 15 deaths.

Almost 5,000 patients are hospitalized due to COVID-19 infection in France.

The situation is not any better in Italy, the epicenter of the pandemic in Europe.

Although these countries have eased the lockdown measures, continuing with their everyday lives, the announced second wave of infections strikes this month.

Italy’s Ministry of Civil Protection has reported 953 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours.

Also, the country has 6,000 new cases last week, which is the highest number since May this year.

The total number of COVID-19 positive people in Italy is 260,298, while 35,441 have lost their lives.

At the moment, there are 65 coronavirus patients in intensive care units in Italy.
