The efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus in the U.S. are not fruitful, and experts are warning of continuous new infections and deaths in the months to come.
Although the situation in the country is still alarming, some Eastern states are easing the lockdown regulations and risking the lives of their citizens.
According to Dr. Scott Gottlieb, a former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, COVID-19 cases keep rising in 20 states across the U.S., and there is no sign of controlling the pandemic. He also pointed out that at this pace, there will be 20,000 to 30,000 new infected people every day, followed by 10,000 deaths per day.
These numbers are devastating and leave no hope. He also said: “You can see this slow simmer explode into a new epidemic or large outbreaks.”
Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, shared her worries about the protests in Michigan against the continued business closure measures of the governor.
According to her, the group of protestors could spread the virus to their elderly family members when they return to their homes and be responsible for fatal outcomes that they will regret for the rest of their lives.
Social distancing is still one of the crucial rules that we all need to follow if we want to stop this virus from severely impacting the nation. Staying at home, especially if showing symptoms, is also a protective measure that we need to respect. Until the scientists come up with a reliable vaccine, “you need to continue to practice scrupulous hand-washing,” Dr. Birx said.
