Brazil’s President Bolsonaro is COVID-19 Positive After Ignoring the Virus for Months

After dismissing the seriousness of the virus for months, Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro announced today that he has coronavirus.

According to his words, the first symptoms started this weekend, and he was immediately given hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin by his doctor.

Hydroxychloroquine is a drug that Bolsonaro highly recommended in the last couple of months, and we know about it from President Trump, who also fancies this medicine.

However, there is still no scientific proof that hydroxychloroquine cures COVID-19.

After applying it on himself, Bolsonaro is even more optimistic about the drug, saying: “I am feeling very well. I believe that the way they administered the hydroxychloroquine on, the effect was immediate.”

He also said he is surprised he didn’t feel any symptoms earlier, as he’s constantly among people, exposed to potential infection.

Bolsonaro thought he already had the virus: “I have to admit, I thought I had gotten it earlier, considering my very dynamic activity in the face of the people.”

Brazil today is reaching 1,623,284 coronavirus cases while 65,000 people have lost their lives to the virus.

Despite these devastating numbers, the president still pushes the provinces to reopen and forces people to go to work in order to save the gigantic economy that’s been free-falling in the last months.

Brazil doesn’t get enough COVID-19 detection tests, so experts say that the numbers are 12 to 16 times higher.

Last month, Bolsonaro was ordered by a court to wear a face mask, and the same order was overturned.
